What is an asset

Following the ITIL definition, an IT asset is any financially valuable component that can contribute to the delivery of an IT product or service. The scope of IT asset management typically includes all software, hardware, networking, cloud services, and client devices.

From EdgeWatch point of view an asset is any unique actuable IT resource that can be reached, and therefore exploited.

As far as we only can reach your systems from outside, it will be any IP address we cannot associate to separate servers or services. i.e. Server or load balancer. If we can scan your services and network with our agent, any unique server or device we found.

Your domain names will be automatically associated to one or several assets where they resolve.
